Dr Teddy Wu, FRACP, PhD – Private Specialist Neurologist

Dr Teddy Wu completed his medical training from University of Auckland in 2004. He then qualified as a specialist Neurologist in 2014 after spending time in Auckland and Christchurch during his training. He then completed a 3-year advanced clinical and academic fellowship in Melbourne at the Royal Melbourne Hospital as a stroke sub-specialist, and was awarded a PhD in stroke medicine from University of Melbourne. He returned to New Zealand in 2017 and has been practicing as a specialist Neurologist in the Department of Neurology at Christchurch Hospital since. In addition to clinical practice, Teddy has active interest in academic research and has published internationally in the field of neurology and stroke medicine.

He is excited to offer specialist Neurology consultation service at Casebrook Surgery. Teddy also has a good command of Mandarin and is able to provide consultation in Mandarin.

Outside of his work Teddy is a proud father of four active children and enjoys the great outdoors including skiing, running and tramping.

Dr James Beharry MBChB, FRACP  – Private Specialist Neurologist

Dr James is very pleased to join Casebrook Surgery and provide specialist neurologist consultation. He will be available from 25th August 2023.

Dr James Beharry is a neurologist with subspecialty training in stroke, neuroimmunology and neurophysiology. He graduated from the University of Auckland Medical school in 2013 and completed his initial neurology training at Christchurch Public Hospital. He completed a stroke fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, followed by further fellowship training in neurophysiology and neuroimmunology (multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis and other neuroinflammatory disorders) at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne. James has additional special interests in headache disorders and neuromuscular neurology. He also holds a consultant neurologist position at Christchurch Hospital and is actively involved in academic research. Outside of work, James enjoys playing various instruments and spending time in the outdoors.

Both Neurologists are Southern Cross Health Insurance affiliated providers.
Waitlist expectations:
There is currently a wait time of approximately 4 months for a new patient appointment from time of referral. There is a cancellation waitlist and waitlisted patients will be offered these appointments when they become available, often at short notice.
